Omar Apollo ruminates over lost love on new single ‘Archetype’

Though it’s only been a few months since Omar Apollo dropped his debut studio album Ivory back in April, the young singer/songwriter prodigy seems to have no desire to release his chokehold on 2022. Back this week with the new single “Archetype,” Apollo flexes his signature dulcet tones and vocal intensity on a bright and shimmering summertime banger.

Though the song itself details an uncertain Omar Apollo navigating an intense period of romantic tension, “Archetype” is just as energetic and suave as the man himself. Alternating between hypnotic guitar chords and abrasive indie-rock distortion, Apollo returns this week with the perfect song to decorate our summertime rotations and poolside playlists.

If you’re like me, praying to the stars above begging for more new music from our king in the wake of “Archetype’s” release, then you’re in luck. “Archetype” is no “one-and-done” single, but rather a harbinger of an Ivory deluxe set for release on Aug. 12.

Between a slew of singles, a brand new LP and a tour featuring Deb Never and Daniel Caesar, it should be noted that our king has found little time to sleep in 2022 now that we know he’s been busy working on an Ivory deluxe edition. Despite everything Apollo has going on in his world, “Archetype” delivers fans the signature concentrated and carefully-crafted sound that they’ve come to expect from Mr. Apollo this year.

With more music on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to be an Omar Apollo fan.
