Pusha T on new album: ‘I think I’ve topped Daytona for sure’

Pusha T seems more than excited to share the progress of his upcoming album since the release of Daytona three years ago.

Following his culture-shifting, controversial 2018 album, the former Clipse rapper and GOOD Music VP says its follow-up is going to be “1,000 percent” better than its predecessor.

Boasting production from Kanye West and The Neptunes, King Push is looking to double down on Daytona’s impact. Sitting down with Billboard this week, Pusha divulged information about his impending LP during the launch of his third closet sale for his clothing brand Grailed.

Pusha told Billboard that the project is currently in the mixing stages and feature verses are still “being finalized.” However, Pusha plans to release something at some point this year,

“I think I’ve topped Daytona for sure. One-thousand percent…”I want to give fans an offering of not only great music but something merch-wise, hard copy, vinyl, everything.”

As for collaborations with Ye and The Neptunes, Pusha says that Pharrell was a harsh critic when he initially brought the idea of new music to him, saying: “I was playing some raps for [Pharrell] in Miami and he was like ‘It’s cool, it’s good, but I think you’re gonna get mixed up with other people, and people thinking you’re all rapping over the same instrumental,’ and I was like ‘You disrespectful jerk, you serious?’ and he said ‘Nah man, you’re always gonna say the greatest things but you want to be different? We’ve got to make compositions.'”

While Pusha’s closet sale provoked conversations about his long-awaited return to the mic, expect him to come back to triumphantly keep his word.
