NPR has been on a roll with their Tiny Desk Concerts this year and hip-hop fans couldn’t be happier.
Rico Nasty is the latest addition to the channel’s rap roster, pulling up in an extravagant outfit as she performed five songs with a live band, bringing the house down in the process.
She opens up the set with a lighthearted rendition of “Magic,” her voice lifting melodies over the live instrumentation. The energy is immediately transformed to mosh pit material as Rico screams her signature sassy lyrics over heavy guitar riffs on the appropriately named “Rage.”
This banger is followed up by “OHFR?,” with Rico expressing her disbelief at her own success and ability to surpass her peers. Her attitude is unmatched as she keeps up her momentum on “Trust Issues,” a party song where Rico ironically spits about her antisocial tendencies.
Last but not least, listeners are treated to a live version of Rico’s hit song “Smack a B****.” She explains that she didn’t even expect the song to be as big as it is now before complimenting her all-female band.
Her performance comes immediately following the release of her music video for “Buss,” as Rico looks to be putting together another full-length release sometime in the near future.
