Rihanna on new album: ‘You’re not gonna expect what you hear’

While Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty Show Vol. 3 is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Friday, the Barbados-born singer dropped a few gems regarding the long-awaited follow-up to her 2016 classic, Anti.

Speaking with the Associated Press on the red carpet Wednesday, Rihanna told reporters to ditch any previous preconceptions of her artistry, saying “whatever you know of Rihanna is not going to be what you hear.”

“You’re not gonna expect what you hear. Just put that in your mind… I’m really experimenting and music is… it’s like fashion. You should be able to play. I should be able to wear whatever I want and I treat music the same way.”

Rihanna also added that she’s “having fun” ahead of her upcoming album, commonly referred to as R9. While her sound may be heading for a “completely different” experimental route, fans are still patiently waiting for an official release date from the enigmatic superstar mogul.

As her career spans over the course of a decade, Rihanna is one of — if not the most famous artist-celebrities in the world. With a career filled with Billboard chart-topping hits, Grammys and other accolades, her business empire with Savage X Fenty has recently made her the wealthiest musician in the world, and second richest female entertainer behind the great Oprah Winfrey.

She also was recently seen shooting a music video in the Bronx with her significant other A$AP Rocky, who told GQ in July that his upcoming album All Smiles was “90 percent finished,” saying that Rihanna had a major influence on the album’s musicality and concept.

For Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 3, premiering this Friday, Rihanna assembled an Avengers level of special musical guests. Artists set to perform are Nas, Daddy Yankee, BIA, Jazmine Sullivan, Ricky Martin, Normani, and Jade Novah. Be sure to tune in.
