Syd gets Smino on the “Right Track”

Syd has not only had a productive year, but she doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon — linking up with St. Louis star Smino for an melodic collaboration.

Right Track” has 90’s R&B written all over it as Syd brings back the soulful aura and nostalgia of Destiny’s Child’s heyday. Smino croons his signature song-rap style as he spits bars about the object of his affection.

Smino continues to thrive as a feature this year, most recently appearing on Yebba’s “Louie Bag.” Collaborations with Saba, Isaiah Rashad, Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats have all been fantastic additions to his discography.

Like Smino, Syd has remained both consistent and diverse in her latest work. Her latest feature was on the Gitty remix of Brittany Howard’s “Baby” — recently contributing to Zayn and Charlotte Day Wilson’s respective projects as well. However, on “Right Track,” Syd takes a moment to warn her lover of what she needs to fully fall in love.

Baby, I’ma need your trust, if we’re gonna be in love

Picture you and me in love, I just wanna see you love

Tell me if it’s all too much

‘Cause we don’t really need to rush

I think you could be the one

I think you and me could stunt, yeah

Feel like we’re on the right track

Keep it up, you keep me comin’ right back, yeah

Syd — “Right Track”

Slowly but surely, it seems as though Syd is working towards a full-length release of some sort. Her February single “Missing Out” was her first of the year, following it up with “Fast Car” shortly after in July. Similarities in the single artworks hint at a possible cohesive project, but fans will have to wait and see until Syd puts us on the “Right Track.”
