Tupac’s mother speaks in new teaser for upcoming FX docuseries

2Pac’s legacy is one of the most widely accepted legacies in hip-hop, especially around Mother’s Day, when his hit single “Dear Mama” becomes more relevant than ever.

26 years after his passing, FX has begun production on a docuseries following his relationship with His mother Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther activist who passed in May of 2016.

In the first teaser for the upcoming series, Afeni speaks out on Tupac’s upbringing, explaining that she taught him how to stand up for his ideals and debate his point of view.

Dear Mama will be a five-part series with interviews from some of the Shakurs’ closest friends and associates. Emmy Award-nominated director Allen Hughes has been tasked with providing an all-encompassing look into Pac’s relationship with his mother, ensuring that this will be an informative view of the “California Love” emcee’s personal life.

“Told through the eyes of the people who knew them best, ‘Dear Mama’ is an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever.”
