After his debut solo album Dogboy dropped last week, Zillakami continues to assert his rock-heavy sound masterfully.
Coming just after his latest LP debuted at No. 2 on Spotify’s Global Chart, he dropped the visual for his anthemic grunge track “Bleach” featuring Denzel Curry.
Reuniting with frequent director JMP, the video features both Zilla and Zel rapping the melancholy song as they walk, drive and hang out in the neighborhood. Denzel appears during his verse while Zillakami lifts weights behind him.
His verse details the emptiness he feels inside and his struggle with mental issues. It’s a stark contrast to the bright and sunny day the video is set in, but does paint the picture of nuances of depression.
Throughout the video, Zillakami moves from rapping on the ground, against the hood of his car, and with his head high in the sky. The shots of him in the clouds as he raps about continually drinking to push his problems aside is one of the most memorable shots of the entire visual and is a great juxtaposition to the grunge sound he’s aiming for on the song.
“Bleach” is one of many collaborations between Zel and Zilla. Previously, they’ve collaborated with Zilla’s group City Morgue on songs like “DRAINO” and Denzel featured him on songs like “VENGEANCE” and Evil Twin.
With another hit under their belts, Denzel and Zillakami have the potential to become a powerful pairing in today’s rap scene.
