With such an eclectic XXL freshman class, the popular freshman cyphers have great anticipation this year. As is tradition, XXL takes a hot producer and has them spin a couple beats for different assortments of the freshman class. This year’s combinations are sure to approach each beat in a completely different way.
Internet Money’s Nick Mira is in charge of instrumentals this time around and stemming from his recent interview with XXL, it seems as though he’s picked beats catering to each artist’s strengths. Check out XXL’s trailer as well as the first of the cyphers below
DDG, Lakeyah, Morray, Coi Leray
With a bouncy xylophone melody and heavy 808s, this beat is guaranteed to bring some heat out of these artists. We get a glimpse of each rapper’s verse, with DDG and Lakeyah doing their tried and true rapping styles. Morray comes on with some aggression, while Coi Leray takes a playful, Carti-esque flow.
Blxst, Toosii
Blxst and Toosii split off for their own cypher, with Nick Mira providing a similar beat to the first. Blxst comes into his verse referring to himself as the GOAT, then Toosii has a few descriptive bars for a lady in his life.

Rubi Rose, Pooh Shiesty, Flo Milli, 42 Dugg
These four rappers get the darkest of the instrumentals. Rubi Rose and Pooh Shiesty start off with cocky bars filled with braggadocio. Flo Milli is the outlier in this lineup, spitting a quick, venomous verse, while 42 Dugg slows it down to his classic drawl on his portion.

Looks like Iann Dior decided not to participate this round, but we will see how the other artists on the list deliver on these beats as the weeks go on.
