Over the weekend, Young Thug released his second official studio album Punk, full of smooth, guitar-infused passionate cuts and lined with eye-popping feature guests like Drake, Future, J. Cole and Post Malone.
Less than 48 hours removed from the album’s release, Thugger paid a visit to the Saturday Night Live stage in New York to perform two of his most buzzing tracks as of late.
To fully maximize the experience of these songs, he also brought along the artists that helped to make the music possible, including Travis Barker of punk band blink-182 who played drums in other live performances of the album, as well as fellow YSL captain Gunna, frequent Kanye collaborator Jeff Bhasker and Nate Reuss of the early 2010s band fun.
Young Thug started with “Tick Tock,” his hit single which released on August 20, but did not end up being added to Punk. In the SNL performance, he only played the first two renditions of the explosive hook and the first verse.
To close, Thug brought out Nate Reuss, Gunna and Jeff Bhasker for the album’s eighteenth song “Love You More,” a slow, poised hypnotic track with a stunning hook from Reuss and smooth verses provided by Thug and Gunna.
In each of these performances, Thug not only seemed genuinely interested in being there, but he gave energy and intensity when rattling off his verses for the two songs. Hopefully this is only the beginning of Thug performing tracks from Punk, as they all deserve to be heard live.
