Denzel Curry demands your attention, drawing first blood with his new single “BLOOD ON MY NIKEZ” — and defying everyone in his way.
Bombastic and brimming with energy, the South Florida emcee emits hunger with each line, complemented by horror-esque, heavy instrumentation and quaking 808s that set ablaze any nearby speaker. “Let me wipe the blood off my nikes,” he pines with a charismatic Southern flow, glistening with personality while unapologetically — and bluntly — talking his shit.
“Mane, how the f**k you get all your bread took?
I’m a real n**ga, leave a trail full of dead crooks.
Opposite of snakes, you’re the type to make the feds look
I could make the shell shook, that chopper sing like Sam Cooke,”

The song, which dropped on digital streaming platforms Thursday (July 27) featuring the iconic Three-6 Mafia member Juicy J, is complemented by Curry’s stark music video posted on July 20. “BLOOD ON MY NIKEZ” is introduced as “track 1” in the opening frame, a clue for Curry fans waiting on a full-length project.
Zel’s been ferocious promoting the track on social media leading up to the video’s drop. “If you mad that this isn’t an album, you a bitch,” he wrote on Twitter. “I don’t work for you. BLOOD ON MY NIKEZ… stay tuned.” “I wouldn’t have to promote guerrilla style if y’all weren’t sleeping on me,” he said in another. The track seemingly alludes to Curry’s album of the same name, or “13LOOD 1N + 13LOOD OUT RELOADED” which appears at the top of his Twitter bio. He’s also teased the title ULTRAGROUND in various tweets amid studio sessions with WESTSIDE GUNN and JPEGMAFIA.
Following both live and studio iterations of his critically-acclaimed Melt My Eyez, See Your Future, Curry returns to the mic rapping like his life depends on it. This is a flip from the conversation we had with him last year, as Curry looked to get into a more R&B-centric bag amid a blazing feature run with JELEEL!, midwxst, Armani White, Mike Dimes, Danny Towers, DJ Scheme and more.
Relentless in every way, Zel wages war on “BLOOD ON MY NIKEZ.” Here’s hoping he keeps this same energy on this next tape.
