Highway spits ‘Cash Talk (No Talkin)’ on new single

Although Seattle has bred a few hip-hop icons over the years such as Sir Mix-a-Lot, Macklemore and, more recently, Lil Mosey, the city seems to have a new star on the rise.

Melodic R&B and rap dynamo Highway has had a quiet 2022 thus far after releasing two projects in 2021 with his album The Way and August EP Count Fast Untitled. But now, Highway is back on the road, releasing his brand new single “Cash Talk (No Talkin)” on Wednesday (May 4).

On “Cash Talk (No Talkin),” Highway keeps it pretty simple stylistically and content wise, crooning about his affinity for weed, rapping that he “hit Seattle” because “the gas better,” women and money, as many of his peers often do.

Over the toned-down guitar infused trap instrumental, similar to a beat Roddy Ricch would employ, Highway is composed on the track as he finds a rhythmic pocket with his flow and sticks to it throughout.

Sandwiched between the lengthy “Cash talk ain’t no talking / Bankroll when I walk in” hook, Highway’s smooth singular verse about “smoking exotic” and sexual relations proves his skill at carrying a track with is blissful voice, similar to some of Future‘s most romantically-geared hits.

I don’t fit lames on my damn schedule

Throw her on the bed and I stretch in it

Throwing up set then rep in it

I take the money I’m letting it blow

How it feel to be broke I never know

I got it up I done been there before

It’s currently unknown whether or not this new release is a promotional single for an upcoming project, but if Highway continues to sound this elegant, then we can only hope he continues to put out more music.
