JID shares “Surround Sound” with 21 Savage, Baby Tate, DJ Scheme

Atlanta native and Dreamville phenom JID has been working on his third studio album The Forever Story since his 2018 star-studded sophomore effort DiCaprio 2.

TFS will serve as a sequel to his 2017 debut The Never Story, which first showcased JID’s keen ear for soulful rap instrumentation, his vocal diversity and slick-tongued rapping — which he has only built on since.

Now, JID kicks off the rollout for The Forever Story with his latest single “Surround Sound” featuring 21 Savage, Baby Tate and features production from DJ Scheme. The track will presumably serve as the first promotional single JID’s next chapter, as he used the #TFS hashtag in the announcement post.

The track features classic 1960’s jazz sample — “One Step Ahead” by Aretha Franklin — as the visual is set to include a plethora of high-end cars and women. While this will be 21 Savage and JID’s first collaboration, Baby Tate connected with Dreamville in 2019 for their compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers III on the song “Don’t Hit Me Right Now” with Bas, Cozz, Guapdad 4000 and Buddy, which likely led to her addition on “Surround Sound.”

JID revealed more about The Forever Story in a recent mini-documentary released in November, where he previews a couple of unreleased songs, with one including Lil Yachty.

Dreamville’s self-proclaimed “Honey Badger” is finally back, as “Surround Sound” sends waves toward his long-awaited full length return to the spotlight.
