Classical composer turned popstar Johan Lenox is ditching the his comfort zone on his latest single — saying “Fuck This Town” as the rollout for What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up continues.
Fresh off of dropping “Get My Shit Together,” his collaboration with SoundCloud legend Thouxanbanfauni, Lenox’s latest single — released on April 29 — is the final offering ahead of his upcoming album, WDYWTBWYGU. Speaking with Our Generation Music on the creative process of the project, Lenox attests that it is his most cohesive LP yet.
On “Fuck This Town,” elegant strings flow through the instrumental as distorted drums and a smooth bass back Johan’s melancholic crooning. His ever-present post-apocalyptic theme makes a reappearance as he proposes a plan to leave his hometown.
“Driving by the high school in my brother’s busted Civic
On my phone, I got a spliff in my mouth
Now I’m taunted by a red light that won’t change
I think I’m gonna fucking run it, there’s nobody around”
Johan Lenox — “Fuck This Town”
Previously releasing tracks with Lancey Foux, RMR, Ant Clemons, Cousin Stizz and more, anticipation is at an all-time high for Johan’s orchestral take on hip-hop and pop music.
For me, “Fuck This Town” is actually an affectionate song about growing up in a small town where it feels like nothing exciting happens. This song is really close to my heart which is why I wanted to have it as one last single before WDYWTBWYGU. RUN THIS ONE UP 🧯🧯🧯
