“I’m not no background singer,” KayCyy declared on the initial cover art to “My Jeans” — a rebuttal for his undeserved omission on Travis Scott’s UTOPIA.
Contributing to the track “THANK GOD,” the YZY Sound disciple’s frustrations with fellow Ye pupil La Flame boiled over in the form of “My Jeans” last week (Aug. 4). Sharing the track’s visual on Friday (Aug. 11), the single — which has been teased for the better part of two years — looks to lead in KayCyy’s forthcoming mixtape Never Been So Sure.

Produced by MikeWavvs and Ervin Garcia, “My Jeans” is a two-step time warp that feels more like a ‘70s dance record than a modern-day rap hit. As genre lines continue to be blurred in music, “My Jeans” is the epitome of KayCyy’s creative talent and one-of-one ear polished by YZY Sound’s School Of Music. With a hypnotic sample, thumping four-on-the-floor drums and infectious vocals from KayCyy, “My Jeans” is a summertime jam you never want to end.
Without a release date for NBSS, UTOPIA has been cause for KayCyy’s recent spike in notoriety. However, his talent was never overlooked, first breaking out on DONDA’s “Keep My Spirit Alive” in 2021. The Kenya-born, Minnesota-based rising star has consistently put out tracks since then, dropping mixtapes in Get Used To It (2022), Who Else Would It Be (2022) and most recently TW 2052 with Gaseffelstein in May. Never Been So Sure looks to be the final teaser tape ahead of his long-awaited debut album, Who Is KayCyy?.
Expect NBSS to drop sometime this month.
