3, 6, 9… Kenny Mason has built a something run within his new world.
The Atlanta artist continues to prove he’s one of the most versatile and talented emcees of our generation, teasing his forthcoming album 9 with the release of “Highway 9” — a 3-pack that holds new tracks in “PULP FICTION,” “OFF THE RIP” and “FACTS” which came with a brooding, homegrown visual of Mason’s stomping grounds.
Sharing 3 on March 3 and 6 on June 6, most fans thought Mason would put out the final iteration of his expansive mixtape series on Sept. 9, but he decided to fine tune and add to it instead, promising it would be “timeless.”
“To all pups everywhere: I wanna take the time to say thank you. Seeing the love we got from y’all listening to ‘3’ and ‘6’ makes me smile everyday,” he wrote in a message. “Me and gang have been working on this next chapter. I know some of y’all expected an album on 9/9… the world we’ve been creating has expanded so much this year that I decided to keep working on it. No worries, I still got music droppin. ‘9’ will be timeless, thank y’all for giving a f**k.”
Another razor sharp display of Mason’s lyrical skill, “Highway 9” emenates deeper sounds heard on 9’s predecessors. Each track offers something different — “PULP FICTION’s” edgy rock undertones, “FACTS” narrative allure and “OFF THE RIP’s” energy all combine for a pack filled with creative prowess.
While RUFFS still rings loudly in the ears of fans, expect 9 to be worth more than anything else Mason has put out. Think of “Highway 9” as a stocking stuffer while you wait for Christmas (9).
