Sharing its self-titled lead single “Origin” in October, the album itself is an anecdote of Slump’s blossoming career until this point, taking listeners throughout every area of his aesthetic soundscape. From high-pitched bars to New York-influenced cadences, the teen up-and-comer’s ability to switch lanes effortlessly — mixing aggressive rage tracks and melodic anthems alike — is a pure testament to his talent within the new wave.
The 12-track project contains a single feature from Yung Bans on “All There,” as instrumentals vary from simple and heavy progressions to smooth, swaying synths. Tracks like “Lincoln,” “Man Down!” and “Missed Calls” further showcase Slump’s knack for catching melodies amid chaotic, synth-heavy production.
In this Origin story, however, fans find Slump being overly aware of himself and the feelings that follow him — rapping about his lifestyle, getting money, shooting his opps, how successful his life has been, as well as how he is just at the start of his career. Despite his braggadocio, the “Antisocial” rapper finds balance on floating tracks like “Apologies,” using his versatility to his advantage all over the record.
Earlier this year, friend and frequent collaborator BabySantana joined Slump6s for a collaborative EP titled DAKOTAROMANI. The “Antisocial” duo are as dynamic as can be, commonly referring themselves as the new wave XXXTENTACION and Ski Mask The Slump God. While the two new wave leaders have managed to develop their own collective sound, Slump deviates in his own way. Touting fast-paced flows and a vocal chemistry unhinged by genre, Slump6s is only going to progress following his long-awaited debut.
At the forefront of a new era of SoundCloud rappers defining the soundscape of our generation, Slump6s carries his presence with bold production and a refined versatility unmatched by those at just age 16. As he continues to exceed expectations, his music becomes more ahead of his time — with Origin announcing his arrival, turning the first page toward his bright future.
