Teen underground sensation Slump6s has never been one to let off the gas, dropping his latest single “Presidential” (Feb. 11) with more pomp than ever.
For those unfamiliar with Slump6s, “Presidential” is a perfect introduction — beating you over the head with wild energy and a relentless borderline-chanted autotune flow that somehow falls perfectly on busy, bass-heavy rage production (prod by Beancoco & Filipmakesbeats).
As always, Slump delivers a hugely compelling combination of youthful energy, tight execution, and a command of the underground all wrapped in superstar levels of confidence.
Flaunting his signature rage sound and unique style, the visual for “Presidential” (directed by Nick Welch, VFX by Worldwide Films) is full of underground staples from its trippy, color-coordinated visual effects to Slump’s unusual choice of headgear — something Soundcloud rappers can’t seem to get enough of. His suit-and-tie, the perfectly timed edits, the black-white-and-red color palette and the way the VFX break the square frame at key moments all perfectly complement the song and really make it jump off the page.
When it comes to the underground world of new-age SoundCloud rap, age is but a number. The 16-year-old phenom is already taking massive strides — and not just because he stands at a surprising 6’1”. Last year, Slump explained the origin behind his name during his exclusive OGM interview.
In addition to a nod to Ski Mask the Slump God, the “6s” is actually a stylized version of “success,” combining with “slump” to mean something like “Dreaming of success” or “Success while sleeping.” Very much like his sound, his name incorporates underground mainstays and makes them his own by infusing them with a deeper meaning and thoughtful execution.
In short order, Slump6s has developed a fiercely loyal fan base with his fresh and forward-thinking style. Firmly embedding himself as a key player as one of Field Trip Recordings’ flagship artists — alongside fellow emerging stars in Yeat, SSGKobe and HVN — he continues to evolve not only his sound, but his status as a fringe superstar.
Slump’s debut album, Origin (November 2021), is an impressive display of his dynamic and carefully choreographed range — spanning from controlled-chaos rage to gentle melodies to catchy club bangers. At only 16-years-old, Slump consistently displays a level of talent and maturity well beyond his years, perfectly positioning himself for “6s” with futuristic hits like “Presidential.”
