Chicago rapper Tokin isn’t letting off the gas anytime soon.
Stemming from his December debut album Vandals, as well as recent singles in “Permission” and “Final Act,” the 18-year-old star-in-the-making was seemingly “Born 2 Win” on his head-bobbing underground banger.
“They know I was born to win, they tried to put me in a box,” the teen phenom spits with hunger and tenacity on the Based1-produced cut, as Tokin continues to flex his high-caliber freestyle skills over any beat with ease. Touting ethereal, alien-like synths and booming 808s, the Juice WRLD-inspired wordsmith finds solace in both brash and lighthearted soundscapes — rapping with a refined presence way past his experience.
Four up in my pop, they tryna take me out my spot
They know that I was born to win, they tried to put me in a box
Oh, I’m gettin’ hot, they hit my phone and then I block
I’m Mr. Bestfriend with my FN, get invested in my chop
Tokin — “Born2Win”
This is Tokin’s third single following his debut project last year, as the rising Chi-town enigma has plenty more in the vault. Regularly teasing a slew of new tracks and other snippets on Instagram Live, Tokin’s skin in the game will stem from his knack to set booths ablaze every time he grips the mic.
Bound to blow up with talent beyond his years, take notice of Tokin before it’s too late.
