A song that’ll want to make you crank dat, Tommy Richman knows how to make a song blow up like the back of his hand.
The Virginia-based singer-rapper just dropped his latest single “Actin Up”—the first offering since sharing his debut album, COYOTE, last Fall—and it has the juice of another viral hit. Between the track’s nostalgic steel drum lead (you did it first, Soulja Boy) and infectious groove, Richman returns to the sound that aided his breakout 2024—heard on Billboard-charting hits like “Million Dollar Baby” and “Devil Is A Lie.”

While already achieving chart peaks and industry-wide acclaim, Tommy still feels like the underdog on a path to prove himself. “’Actin Up’ is a statement piece made a few months ago as an act of frustration and feeling underestimated,” Richman said in a press release. “It’s an anthem that speaks about giving an underdog a chance.”
With that in mind, “ACTIN UP” is an anthem that truly speaks for itself. Following his comments of not being “a hip-hop artist,” it’s clear his statement was taken out of context—saying that he’s MORE than a hip-hop artist (which is evident on COYOTE), existing on the fringes of the genre.
Although Richman scored another viral hit with “ACTIN UP,” I’m left wondering where he goes from here? Perhaps that’s the Tommy Richman experience; you never really know what’s coming next.
