Xhulooo has quietly been rising through the ranks of the underground, as the 16-year-old artist dropped his latest tightly-executed single “Answer” — answering the question “what does a textbook pluggnb banger sound like?”
While some artists in the space seem to run hot-and-cold, Xhulooo takes his time carefully crafting his smooth pluggnb sound — separating himself from the pack with a fully-developed style absent of much of the rawness you might expect within the genre. “Answer” is a perfect example of his instantly catchy melodic flow and consistently quality production, produced by an underground A-team including Flansie, CGM Beats and Ccured.
In addition to his charismatic delivery, Xhulooo makes it clear that even at 16-years-old he is well versed in the vocab of the underground — referencing every underground staple from trendy fashion to choppers in a way that feels clever and confident, rather than forced.
The visual for “Answer,” directed by the prolific Nick Welch, is done in Xhulooo’s preferred style: a fairly standard run-and-gun music video energized with some best-in-class visual effects expertly choreographed to emphasize the song’s vibey production. The visual also gives a good look at his particuluar fashion sense and undeniable baby face, forcing fans to further appreciate just how polished his sound is at his age.
In his interview with OGM’s Hakeem Rowe, we learned how Xhulooo is carving out a lane in the increasingly popular underground scene with singles like “Opp Pack” and “Suburban”, as well as “Red Hair” and “42” off his 2021 EP Rude & Reno. He’s also connected with many of the space’s key players, already with appearing on songs with SoFaygo, BabySantana, Yung Fazo and Slump6s — also working with notable underground producers like Maajins, Bakkwoods, Ninetyniiine and much more.
Overall, “Answer” is yet another quality release from Xhulooo showcasing his polished pluggnb style. It will surely be interesting to watch as the young 16-year-old phenom continues to develop his sound and grow into his obvious starpower.
