WIth it being Nudy and Metro’s seventh collaboration, with their most recent being “Umbrella” back in December 2022, “John Wayne” is a triumphant double-door swinging anthem, easily becoming a song of summer jam. Teased over the better part of three years, the fiery collaboration certainly lived up to the hype, as Nudy and Metro make a menacing anthem with Wild West spirit.
This is Nudy’s first appearance since being featured on Childish Gambino’s ATAVISTA earlier this summer. Releasing his last full-length album, GUMBO, in February 2023, the slick-tongued emcee has been teasing another joint effort with Pi’erre Bourne in the anticipated Sli’merre 2. Nudy’s work with prolific producers is apparent throughout his catalog, but efforts like “John Wayne” and the forthcoming S2 continue to prove Nudy’s long-lasting dominance in the Atlanta trap circuit.
Coming off a career year, Metro’s landmark 2024 heroically continued with the release of “John Wayne.” Steming from a double-album effort with Future (We Don’t Trust You and WSDTY), the St. Louis orchestrator has his sights set on finishing he and JID‘s collab album — which should drop sometime later this year. Emerging victorious from the rap war of 2024 with Drake, the “BBL Drizzy” beatmaker refuses to take a loss. Well, in regards to his musical efforts.
