JID, Metro Boomin confirm forthcoming joint album

A JID and Metro Boomin collab album does, in fact, exist. The pair sent fans into a frenzy on Tuesday (March 28) when they revealed their joint project is in the works.

While currently scarce on details, The Forever Story rapper confirmed the record by correcting @Rap301 on Twitter about a speculative single. “Teases album*” he wrote in response, as the prolific HEROES & VILLAINS producer was the first to reveal a working collaboration with JID, posting a photo of them in the studio.

With JIDTro set to drop soon, Metro has teased joint records with Future, Don Toliver and contributed heavily to A$AP Rocky’s upcoming Dont Be Dumb, as the AWGE mogul revealed fans should be calling his new album “Flacko Boomin.”

“Got a lot of new music coming, but when me and JID drop…” he teased on Twitter, as JID confirmed its existence with his own reply. “I love working with you brudda, it’s an honor,” further fueling the fire the two have coming. Metro also corroborated JID’s remarks in another tweet.

Well into his “Luv is 4Ever Tour” with St. Louis enigma Smino, the “Ma Boy” emcee has had a stratospheric rise to mainstream acclaim in recent years. Alongside his feature on Imagine Dragons’ “Enemy” in 2021, JID was well-focused on his solo efforts ahead of his long-awaited third studio album.

The Forever Story, which features Kenny Mason, Lil Durk, Lil Wayne, 21 Savage and more, became the rapper’s magnum opus upon its release last October. With fan-favorites in “Bruddanem,” “Dance Now” and the Platinum-selling “Surround Sound,” it took the Dreamville golden child five years to follow up DiCaprio 2 (2018) — ultimately perfecting TFS in that time.

Metro Boomin heroically saved hip-hop in 2022 with his blockbuster sophomore album HEROES & VILLAINS — his second record a part of an impending trilogy. Clad with star-studded voices like Future, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Takeoff, Young Thug and more, H&V became the most streamed hip-hop album of 2022 despite its release in December. What’s more impressive is that Metro holds the highest-selling rap album of 2023 so far, selling a total of 527,000 units as of March 18.

Prior to H&V’s release, the untimely passing of his mother last June caused the producer to delay the project for a few months. Metro in turn dedicated the record to his late-mother — his first full-length outing since Savage Mode II in 2020 — and there’s no doubt she would’ve been proud of what he’s accomplished.

As far as dynamic rapper-producer duos go, JID and Metro could very well become the game’s most potent. Here’s hoping news of this joint album heats up as Spring drops loom closer. “Thank God for the day!
