Blueface has had a well-deserved resurgence in 2021. Touting stellar collaborations with Calboy, DDG, 1takejay, Smokepurpp and more, Blueface continues to make his mark alongside the genre’s up-and-coming stars. His latest feature on Fatboy SSE’s remix of “Fly Away,” further displays how his trademark flow carries the energy of any track he touches.
Appearing all over festivals this summer — including Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash — it’s apparent that Blueface’s impact on the game is defined by his presence and charisma on stage. With a catalog of West Coast style bangers behind him, he linked up with 2021 XXL Freshman Blxst for their latest collaboration, “Chose Me.”
Blue and Blxst evidently blast off on the track’s harmonious string-driven production, as the latter croons about their lavish lifestyles choosing them rather than choosing it for themselves. Blueface’s drawled, hypnotic verse provides a vibe like none other — rapping about money, women and showing up to the party trying to “have a blast with Blxst.”
Blueface Baby, I ain’t choose her, she chose me (Yeah)
If you take it all at one time you gon’ OD (Oh)
Baby call me, “Baby boy”, she said I act like Jodie (Ooh)
Lately, I’ve been hittin’ these new bitches with the old me
Cold summers, I’ve been dodgin’ hot girls with the cold shoulders
I could bring Maybach in the middle of October, player
I’m hittin’ bitches and they friends, player
I ain’t choose this lifestyle, bitch, it chose me, player
“Chose Me” — Blueface (Verse 1)
Blxst has had a busy year after appearing on the 2021 XXL Freshman List. While known for his high-quality crooning and quick-witted bars, his latest feature run has included the likes of YG, Mozzy, Drakeo the Ruler and Russ, as well as a collaborative mixtape with Bino Rideaux. He also recently appeared on Snoop Dogg’s album Algorithm on the track “Go To War.”.
Visuals for “Chose Me” show Blueface and Blxst in a mansion surrounded by fancy cars and beautiful women — flexing their status and wealth at every turn. While Blueface continues to cement himself as one of the Internet era’s most unpredictable yet enjoyable artists, time will only tell where his legacy resides once it’s all said and done.
