Brent Faiyaz shares new single ‘WY@,’ expands ISO Supremacy era

Amid launching his own creative agency last month, Brent Faiyaz is back in his bag for the better.

Celebrating his 28th birthday on Sept. 19 with “WY@,” the contemplative single arrives a month after the star R&B crooner shared “Moment Of Your Life” (Aug. 23) — the first track under his newly-established ISO Supremacy imprint.

Interestingly, news of his business dealings always seem to surround new music, sharing “Fell In Love” with Marshmello just after penning his partnership with United Masters this past May. Nearly a year removed from his latest studio album Wasteland and Sonder-produced EP Too Late To Die Young, “WY@” is Faiyaz’s third standalone effort of 2023.

Faiyaz has continued to assert full independence amid these agreements, methodically building ISO Supremacy, (which stands for “In Search Of Supremacy”) for the past several months. “WY@” is the latest stepping stone for something greater in his vault, mesmerizing with silky smooth hooks and ad-libs that melt like desert sand in the track’s corresponding artwork. “I be doing shit I really shouldn’t do,” he declares on the opening lines, washing down his sins with liquor in Sin City (because why not).

“Moment Of Your Life” (Aug. 23), featuring prolific songstress Coco Jones, sees Lord Faiyaz in final form, floating over sweltering finger-picked guitars and an instantly infectious drum pattern. He maintains his transparent yet toxic persona with ear-catching lines such as, “You looking better than you ever did / If you told me a secret, I would spread that shit.” Coco echoes Faiyaz’s swooning sentiments, playing off the call-and-response of a late-night link-up with gorgeous vibratos. “I’ll show you my secrets if you can handle it / I don’t wanna hide, always been a good girl, but I got a bad side,” Jones croons.

Currently on the final leg of his “F*ck the World, It’s a Wasteland Tour” — whose US portion wraps on Sept. 15 in Los Angeles, and ends on Nov. 20 in London — Faiyaz’s Wasteland rollout has waged on over a year since its release. Not only has he shared the visual to “Rolling Stone” earlier this summer, but dropped off the visual for another album standout “Jackie Brown” (Aug. 16). Brent reflected on his penchant for Quentin Tarantino-inspired aesthetics in an interview with Variety late last year.

“Jackie Brown was one of the movies I was watching during COVID on repeat. Besides the fact that Pam Grier was fine as sh-t in that movie, I also liked the fact that they stay by the beach in L.A., and I stay in Venice… Cinematically, I liked the shots and I liked the colors. For whatever reason, when I watch Tarantino films, it just makes me want to make music. Something about the images just puts sounds in my head. Tarantino’s the GOAT. Cold as f–k.”

The DMV talent clued fans into his next album, Make It Out Alive, just after Wasteland’s release, saying he made Wasteland out of sessions for MIOA. Perhaps “WY@” and “Moment Of Your Life” are the catalyst to Brent’s ISO era, which could very well include Make It Out Alive (in theory).

Clad with creative partnerships, agencies and new music to match, Lord Faiyaz stays winning — seizing his moment above all.
