Bryson Tiller channels holiday cheer on new EP ‘A Different Christmas’

One of R&B’s most prominent stars is back with brand new music. However, this release isn’t Bryson Tiller’s typical soulful, trap-inspired R&B, it comes with a little twist — a festive twist, that is.

For music lovers, Christmas came early this year as the Grammy-nominated singerrapper delivered a 7-track, Christmas-themed EP titled A Different Christmas this past weekend (Nov. 19). The holiday-styled project is seemingly a special one — snagging features from artists like Justin Bieber, Poo Bear, Tayla Parx, Kiana Ledé, and a special appearance from his daughter, Harley.

Bryson Tiller — who is most known for his 2015 multi-platinum album Trapsoul — took to Instagram prior to its release to thank the artists appearing on his project and most importantly, wished fans a Happy Holidays. Previous to A Different Christmas, Tiller shared the follow-up to his 2011 mixtape Killer Instinct 2 on Halloween, as holidays and special occasions seem to be a central theme to Tiller’s releases this year.

In Tiller’s A Different Christmas, fans find a plethora of unique sounds and a beautiful blend of R&B, holiday cheer and of course, Tiller’s charming, flawless melodies. In many of the tracks, we hear the use of catchy guitar loops, upbeat progressions, melodic pads and plenty of bells to fit the holiday vibe.

The special appearances on A Different Christmas really bring the project to another level, as each artist smoothly compliments Tiller, trading off verses back and forth. In the final track of the project (“Halo”), Bryson Tiller and his daughter share their version of “Winter Wonderland.” The father-daughter duo, while in sync, harmonize over the jazzy Christmas tune which is sure to bring a smile to fans’ faces instantly. Each song on the project brings a different vibe, but Tiller is still able to maintain the holiday soul he brings forth throughout the record.

Before the release of A Different Christmas, Tiller took to Twitter to announce the release date of the holiday-inspired project and also hinted at a new album in the works.
