Cardi B, Kanye West, Lil Durk cook up summer anthem with ‘Hot Shit’

Cardi B is already taking over the summer, bringing on Kanye West and Lil Durk for a scorching hot single “Hot Shit” (July 1).

The unlikely trio are unexpectedly potent as a group, each dropping bars about different subject matter on the soon-to-be smash hit. Over bombastic trap production from acclaimed producer Tay Keith, Cardi spits about her bad bitch tendencies, while Durk brings forth more street energy. Ye holds nothing back as usual, rapping about fame and the issues that come with his status. Additionally, “Hot Shit” marks Cardi and Ye’s first-ever collaboration.

“They be on my nerve, they be on my nerve, mm-mm

When we lost Virg’, I was on the verge, mm-mm

I just hit the Louis store, I had to splurge, mm-mm

We just made a silent movie with no words, mm

Guess who toppin’ now, uh, God got me now, uh

Guess who at Balenciaga, guess who shoppin’ now, uh

They can’t stop me now, uh, I been poppin’ out, uh

Cardi, where your sister at? I need Henny now”

Speaking on wanting to work with Lil Kim in a new interview, the Bronx-bred emcee also joined Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to discuss the record fresh off its release, saying that “this song been in the vault for a minute” amid plans to drop her sophomore album later this year.

“I really just want to put that album together,” she said. “I haven’t put out a single since ‘Up.’ That’s almost a year-and-a-half ago, so I’m just breaking in. But once I get comfortable and I start setting in, I’m ready to go on beast mode. I’m ready for it.”

With assists from this pair of Chicago legends, Ye, “The Voice” and Cardi are poised to top the charts with their new effort. Revealing a snippet of the single on Sunday (June 26), Cardi held off on announcing Durkio and Ye’s involvement for 24 hours after her initial teaser post.

Cardi’s versatile skillset continues to expand stemming from her energetic New York-style drill cut “Shake It” with Kay Flock. As she adapts to new sounds ahead of her next full-length project, “Hot Shit” arrives just in time for Fourth of July weekend — ushering in a new era for Cardi B altogether.

On the other hand, Durk and Ye have been working overtime this year, each lending their voice to a number of features as well as dropping their own respective albums. Durk’s 7220 is fresh off receiving a deluxe with 14 new tracks, essentially blessing fans with an entire project.

Ye dropped his sequel album Donda 2 exclusively on YZY Stem Player in February — recently releasing his highly-anticipated XXXTentacion collaboration “True Love” alongside the fallen superstar’s documentary “LOOK AT ME.”

As the trio of superstars continue to see tremendous success, the summer is about to get little hotter with Cardi B back on top.
