NYC’s Cash Cobain & Chow Lee drop joint project ‘2 Slizzy 2 Sexy’

One of New York City’s most original and electric duos, Cash Cobain and Chow Lee, dropped a surprise joint project: 2 Slizzy 2 Sexy. On the LP, they flaunt their signature braggadocious bars and intricate melodic style over a wide range of unique sample-driven production. As one of the best new dual-threat artist-producers in the game, remember “these beats are from Cash not from Youtube.”

In contrast to the aggressive drill style dominating the NYC sound, 2 Slizzy 2 Sexy is a perfect showcase of Cash and Chow’s more understated, R&B-like appeal — exhibiting superhuman levels of cool confidence as they walk over one-of-a-kind beats featuring uniquely catchy flips of rare and unexpected samples, lightly sprinkled with catchy asymmetrical drum patterns (produced by Cash Cobain, Trey Bando, Othello Beats, Sliickszn and Danbarry). While they both have their own well-developed signature sound, there is nothing quite like these two on a track together — trading savage, but still lighthearted bars back-and-forth in a way that feels fun, fresh and, as Slizzy would put it, sexy.

In a project full of compelling arrangements and interesting samples, the most eyebrow-raising would have to be the Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah,” hilariously flipped to “Hate U Delilah” and laden with some choice words for the song’s namesake. Other standout moments include the bass-bumping “Cheetah Gir,” the J-Lo nodding “Jenni” or the turned-down “Wavy Lady,” which gives a great sense of their female-first-focus with caption-worthy bars like: “Don’t got a ex problem, I could post you.” There’s also the infectious lead single, “Slizzy Like,” the visual for which dropped in the leadup to the project’s release.

As we learned during his OGM interview with Hakeem Rowe last year, the most important thing about a Cash Cobain beat is that it’s sexy. In light of that, the sexiest song off the project would probably have to be gently melodic “Vacant”— which the pair performed during their recent appearance on On the Radar with Power 105.1’s Gabe P — perfectly showcasing their intricate flows and charismatic personalities. During his interview, Cash stamped his role as the forefather of NYC’s sample drill wave and made the bombshell reveal that he and Drake have a song in the works, hinting that fans may see a mindblowing Drizzy-Slizzy collab sooner rather than later.

With countless collaborations over the years, Cash Cobain and Chow Lee have done an excellent job carving out a unique, lighthearted lane in the NYC music landscape. Never missing when they link, 2 Slizzy 2 Sexy surely satisfies the cravings for a highly-demanded joint album — but its surprise nature suggests that there are still big things coming this year for them both.
