UK’s latest rap phenomenon Central Cee has been putting a laid-back spin on the traditionally aggressive drill subgenre, continuing by dropping a four-track EP after a string of successful singles.
Despite Cee’s previous success in the UK, his presence in the States is still growing — sharing his new 4-track EP, No More Leaks on Friday (Oct. 14). Previewing the tape with the visual for “One Up,” his somber wordplay proves to be consistent as he switches up from the light-hearted nature of “Doja.”
American fans became aware of Cee’s meteoric rise with his quotable hit track “Doja,” a quirky, loose-flowing banger than interpolated lines about international superstar Doja Cat. His quick-witted flows and often shocking bars made him an instant sensation, garnering a whole new audience once his breakout single went viral.
More of both deliveries can be found on his early-2022 album 23, with songs like “Ungrateful” and “Cold Shoulder” mirroring this new release’s melancholy yet gritty quality. His appearance on LA Leakers only added to his virality this year as he used his freestyle as an opportunity to educate us Americans on some everyday British slang. The popularity of his off-the-top verse led him to re-release “Doja” and “LA Leakers Freestyle” as a two-pack representing his triumphs this year.
As he ascends in the spotlight, it’s reassuring to see Central Cee’s consistency following his social media success. Finally, with a few more notches under his belt, his international fanbase has something to hold them over until he begins his next album rollout.
