Cordae announces launch of new label Hi Level

Cordae Record Label: Maryland rapper drops video to promote the label he “100% owns.”

Cordae continues to make waves in the past year. Last August, Cordae decided to leave the rap collective YBN that he had placed in front of his name, changing from YBN Cordae to just Cordae. This news came only two years after the official release of YBN: The Mixtape, a collaborative record involving him, YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay.

A few weeks after his departure from YBN, Cordae released single “Gifted” with Roddy Ricch, which saw the young duo establish great chemistry going back-and-forth on the hook and the verses.

In November, Cordae dropped single “The Parables,” as well as being featured on DJ Scheme‘s album FAMILY for the song “Soda” with Take A Daytrip and Ski Mask the Slump God.

Next, Cordae dropped the four-song EP Just Until…. in April, to stave off his fans hungry for his next album. The project featured Q-Tip on the opener “More Life” and Young Thug on the third track “Wassup.”

On the record, Cordae continued to utilize his melodic singing voice that was heard on “Gifted,” especially for the song “Dream in Color.” This is a trend Cordae has been improving upon, and it would not be a surprise if it is a fundamental element of his upcoming album.

Today, June 22, Cordae announced the launch of his new label, Hi Level. He tweeted out a video narrated by himself discussing what it means to be “hi level,” and that anybody has what it takes to be “hi level.”

It has not been announced if Hi Level has signed any artists, but Cordae is certainly going to be an influential part of the decision making at the label, as it says in the label’s Twitter bio that it is “owned 100%” by Cordae.
