Gunna shares visual to ‘Banking On Me’ amid birthday message

Saying Gunna’s year has been tumultuous would be an absolute understatement.

Since he released his culture-shifting album DRIP SEASON 4EVER in January — outselling The Weeknd’s Dawn FM and debuting at No. 1 on Billboard — Gunna had the entire world “Pushin P” before he was incarcerated in Young Stoner Life’s sweeping RICO indictment last month.

Posting a message on his birthday (June 14), the “Banking On Me” star attests that he is innocent and will “never stop fighting to clear my name,” dropping the self-directed visual to his Valentine’s Day track on Wednesday (June 15) amid his open letter to the public.

“Banking On Me” initially debuted on the deluxe version of DS4EVER, but was quickly removed from streaming platforms for unknown reasons. However, that wouldn’t stop fans from getting a hold of the track and endlessly streaming it — leaving Gunna with no choice but to re-release it.

The song’s smooth piano-styled instrumental — courtesy of production legend, Metro Boomin — is perfect for those capturing a spark with love in the air. The YSL star takes full control of the track by showcasing his signature flow, unique cadence-shifting vocals and wavy, oscillating hooks. Throughout the track, Gunna peacefully raps about his girl’s flawless qualities that make him so infatuated with her.

I don’t wanna get tired of you (Huh)

I’m in the box and we way at the top and we got us a ocean view (Got us a ocean view)

I know I got it, I’m all in her body

And nobody got a clue (Nobody got a clue)

Gunna – “Banking On Me”

The release of the visual comes weeks after the Atlanta native was denied bail in his native Georgia. The 29-year-old superstar rapper is part of a 56-count indictment that sees nearly every single member of YSL behind bars. Young Thug is being treated as the “kingpin” to YSL’s “crime organization,” as labeled by the state of Georgia, denying an expansive bond package that declared both Thug and Gunna a “flight risk” to the community.

While Gunna’s art continues to be analyzed in court, YSL has organized the “Protect Black Art” petition in effort to support its case. Here’s hoping that Thug, Gunna and the rest of YSL make it out unscathed in due time.
