Gunna beats out The Weeknd’s ‘Dawn FM’ for No. 1 debut on Billboard 200

Since Young Stoner Life superstar Gunna released DS4EVER on Jan. 7, he’s kept busy keeping as many eyes on the project as possible.

In a gridlocked battle for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200, it was originally The Weeknd’s transcendent Dawn FM set to be atop the coveted albums chart this week. However, as both albums remained within 2,000 units of each other since they released, it truly is Drip Season 4EVER — as Gunna ultimately edged out Abel’s latest work by a margin of 2,000 units.

Most recently, Gunna also added “P power” featuring Drake to the now-No. 1 album after it was included in the original tracklist, but was curiously left off the project.

The song intriguingly includes a woman’s moan looped on the instrumental, as Gunna and Drake go back and forth with sensual verses. Along with this addition, Gunna changed the album’s title from DS4EVER to DRIP SEASON 4EVER.

In the days after DS4EVER‘s initial release, Gunna has dropped three music videos for “too easy (Remix)” with Roddy Ricch and Future, “livin’ wild” and most recently on Jan. 12, the iconic “pushpin P” music video with Future and Young Thug.

This week has certainly been eventful for the multi-platinum YSL artist, as he was recently kicked off a private jet with Young Thug after accusing their pilot of racism. But, positive vibes continue to radiate from the Young Stoner Life camp, as Gunna continues to add to the DRIP SEASON 4EVER experience.

Gunna shares ‘DS4EVER’ tracklist

Over the past several years, Gunna has climbed the ranks at Young Stoner Life Records Young Thug’s protégé to a bonafide star in his own right — ultimately sharing the spotlight with YSL’s head honcho.

This upward momentum began with his 2018 mixtape Drip Season 3, with hits like “Oh Okay” feat. Young Thug and Lil Baby, as well as “Top Off.” Since then, his studio albums like Drip or Drown 2 (2019) and Wunna (2020) — along with collaborative projects like Drip Harder with Lil Baby (2018), YSL’s label compilations in Slime Language 1 (2018) and 2 (2021) — have made him a household name in hip-hop.

Although the Atlanta-based superstar hasn’t dropped a project since Wunna — along with its subsequent deluxe in July 2020 — fans have been starving for his next release. At the top of 2021, he promised fans that Wunna’s long-awaited follow-up Drip Season 4 would be “coming soon” — teasing the tape further by captioning a majority of his IG posts with “#DS4” this year.

Now, Gunna’s made due on his promise, announcing his highly-anticipated tape would release next weekend on Jan. 7. He followed up with the cover art and track list later in the week, sending die-hard fans into a frenzy in anticipation of DS4.

Gunna ushers in his fourth Drip Season with a pair of promotional singles that he released earlier in 2021, sharing “9 TIMES OUTTA 10” in August and “Too Easy” with Future in September, adding a remix with Roddy Ricch on Dec. 3.
