Just over a month after dropping his self-titled debut project, Highway unexpectedly took to social media on Monday (Aug. 8) to announce that another new tape is on the way.
For the past year, the Seattle native has been bubbling below the surface as one of the underground’s best-kept secrets — instantly converting superfans with his captivating melodic vocal, quiet confidence and intensely original approach. On June 29, he finally dropped his impressive debut project that marked his official arrival as Victor Victor’s newest signee.
Not letting his foot off the gas, Highway is already loading up his next clip as he gears up to drop a new project, telling OGM that now that he’s made his formal introduction, “I’m finna let the world know I’m really Livin Like That” (which happens to be the title of his forthcoming EP).
Details on the new tape are scarce at the moment. There was a possible hint earlier this week when he was spotted linking with KA$HDAMI, which could suggest a potential collab either on Livin Like That or on Dami’s own album set to drop later this month. He also posted a cryptic IG story with an “X” over a guitar in the background, possibly hinting at a new guitar-less direction.
As for a release date, Highway’s manager and secret weapon Chidiebere “Chidi” Udogwu assures “It’ll be given to the people before it gets cold.”
OGM got a chance to sit down with Highway in the lead-up to the release of his debut project, where for the first time he shared details about his come-up, gave insight into his recording process and even shed some light on how he connected with OGM Hakeem Rowe to ultimately become his first artist at Victor Victor.
To those in the know, Highway’s talent is beyond obvious and his ascent is practically inevitable. In his interview with OGM, he was sure to point out that Highway was just the beginning, and less than two months later he’s already living up to that promise.
Check out OGM’s exclusive interview Highway, and be on the lookout for his new EP coming soon!
