Typical of most Joey Bada$$ studio albums, his long-awaited LP 2000 saw him include tributes to his late friend and confidant Capital Steez, lyrics about his love for his hometown Brooklyn and flexes about how he’s one of the greatest rappers alive alongside J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
However, his three-track on “Welcome Back,” “Show Me” and “Wanna Be Loved” saw Joey tap into his romantic side more than ever before — crafting groovy bops that combine his confident raps with elegant production and themes about love.
With 2000 in the rearview, it seems that Joey is planning to double down on these love anthems in the future. On Monday (July 25), Joey launched a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” forum in the r/hiphopheads subreddit so that fans could ask him questions regarding his life and his latest effort. In one of the posts, a user asked if fans would have to wait another five years for him to release another project, alluding to the gap between 2017’s All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ and 2000, to which Joey responded that he will “drop music more consistently moving forward.”
Another user named JustinGitelmanMusic followed up by asking Joey if he would return to themes about Black pride and the oppressive reality of living in America on his next project: “Do you think you might pick up the momentum where AABA left off sonically and conceptually in your next project with 2000 as just a temporary reflection on 1999 for the anniversary?”

In response, Joey, employing the username badmon247, explained that he wants to make his next project more about the relationships in his life and touch on his emotions and romance, similar to how Kanye West did with 808s & Heartbreak.
“Yeah with ‘2000’ I wanted to have fun and not think too much. Flex up and talk my sh*t a bit. I definitely can see myself visiting the ‘AABA’ more conceptual and socially aware but a part of me wants to touch on love and my experience with romantic relationships a bit more. Something like a boom BAP and heartbreak album. I know my fans will probably hate that but that’s a direction I’ve been wanting to take for a while now whether you motherf—kers like it or not.”

Joey has never outwardly gone in this direction for more than a few songs, so a full-length project with motifs about love — much like his TikTok viral smash hit “Love Is Only a Feeling” — would be incredible, especially considering he would still wear his boom-bap strong suit.
