Kenny Beats’ The Cave series has been delivering hit after hit this season, however, the acclaimed producer saved one of his best guests for the shield Season 3 finale.
Griselda wordsmith and Buffalo native Benny The Butcher graced Kenny’s studio for his first-ever Cave performance, and does not disappoint in any regard.
The show kicks off with Benny and Kenny chatting about the differences between East and West coast weed as well as their first collaboration on Denzel Curry‘s Unlocked 1.5 remix album before Kenny starts to work on the beat. As he works, the pair discuss Griselda’s production choices, specifically how the collective decided upon beatmakers like Conductor, Daringer, and Alchemist as some of their go-to guys.
Benny clarified that Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine were the two making the moves behind the scenes with the former having a previously established relationship with Daringer. He then went on to say that those beats showed off his lyrical abilities better than anyone else but, as a student of rap, he knows that he could always expand into other sounds and still be at the top of his game.
Snippets of Kenny’s beat can be heard throughout the show before the final product, but it becomes evident how perfect the match is for The Butcher. The looping, dusty piano keys start off the track and would sound right at home on Benny’s or any of Griselda’s projects. Once he’s in the booth, Benny glides over the tailor-made production and drops a quick but instantly memorable freestyle filled with classic one-liners and quotables.
As Season 3 of The Cave comes to a close with a knockout freestyle by the Butcher, he’s also prepping to release his highly-anticipated album Tana Talk 4 off the back of its lead single “Johnny P’s Caddy” with J. Cole. The latest in his classic album series is expected to drop next month on March 11.
