Khalid takes listeners on a ‘Scenic Drive’ on latest mixtape

El Paso’s own Khalid has molded into one of the few premiere R&B talents still glistening within the genre.

Stemming from the wild success of his debut album American Teen in 2017, the 23-year-old artist was able to make the most of his opportunity as a rising star — releasing a slew of projects and chart-topping hits over the course of his four year career. His heartfelt, raspy vocals have always been a signature to his sound, catching the attention of listeners since he first broke through with tracks in “Location,” “Better” and “Motion.”

Maturing right before our eyes, mixtape Khalid is back dropping his highly anticipated 9-song project Scenic Drive.

While Scenic Drive is Khalid’s first project in over two years, the Grammy-nominated Texas native was able to get back on track by recruiting an impresssive list of feature artists — all of whom help bring Scenic Drive to a whole new level with their own unique style and energy.

The project is full of addicting melodies, instruments, and a diverse range of sounds — courtesy of Khalid and his guests, which include the likes of JID, Smino, Ari Lennox, 6LACK, Lucky Daye and more. Khalid once again showcases his spectacular singing abilities, as well as his ability to perfectly collaborate with any artist regardless of their genre. The versatility across this entire project is truly outstanding and Khalid is able to once again prove himself as one of the most talented young musicians across all music.

Khalid announces tracklist, release date for ‘Scenic Drive’

Khalid is making a comeback — announcing the release date for his upcoming tape Scenic Drive is set to drop on Dec. 3.

The El Paso native — who hasn’t dropped a project in well over two years — is returning with a fresh and concise nine-track EP. The 23-year-old artist was able to recruit some stellar features to help him perfect his R&B centric sound, including Alicia Keys, 6LACK, Lucky Daye, Quin, JID, Kiana Ledé, Majid Jordan, Smino, and Ari Lennox.

Khalid also took to Instagram to share the news of his upcoming EP, as well as displaying his excitement and nervousness for the release for fans to listen. He also gave a huge thank you to all the artists who contributed to Scenic Drive.

Although it’s been quite some time since Khalid released a cohesive project, he still has managed to keep his foot on the gas in that time. Just this year alone, he’s dropped multiple songs and is featured on various tracks, dropping singles in his latest “Present” on Oct. 22 as well as “New Normal” and “working” with rising pop star Tate McRae. He also teamed up with Mariah Carey and Kirk Franklin for a holiday-themed track titled “Fall in Love at Christmas.”

While Khalid looks to bring forth a new era of his sound, his mixtapes have seemingly packed a greater punch than his albums. On his 2018 tape Sun City, Khalid brought forth arguably some of his biggest hits to date in “Better,” “Saturday Nights” and “Motion.” His debut album American Teen took over the Billboard charts in 2017, as the then-rising singer found himself with a Top 10 debut and achieving RIAA platinum certification in October 2017.
