Killer Mike prepares for battle on ‘Run’ featuring Young Thug

With the Fourth of July coming at a turbulent time in this country, many US citizens have taken the opportunity to express their unhappiness with the ceaseless turmoil America has experienced.

Atlanta rap legend Killer Mike has been a vocal participant in politics, using his platform to expose social injustices and have tough conversations about the future of our country. His latest single is a testament to the war that is being fought within our own political system, between media outlets, political parties and ideologies.

RUN” leads in with a monologue from comedian Dave Chappelle where he compares our current political climate to the Battle of Normandy — encouraging citizens to continue to fight for their rights. Killer Mike leads in with his classic lyrical gymnastics before fellow ATLien Young Thug makes an appearance as well, flexing his riches and work ethic.

“Still an underground king and that’s word to Bun

Locked in like Rice Street without a bond

I was playin’ with the powder way beforе LeBron

My wife was born a rеdhead, but now she a blonde

Politicians lie and your favorite rapper is a con

Don’t check for me without a check for me, that’s a hund’

Only Ls I wear is followed by Vuitton

Get money and the power, teach them while they’re young

Hmm, blessed to make it out the slums, run, nigga, run”

Killer Mike — “RUN”

This marks Thug’s second feature since his RICO incarceration, with the Fourth of July giving him the perfect opportunity to bless fans despite his imprisonment. Calvin Harris brought Thug along for the first single after his arrest, the Dua Lipa-assisted pop record “Potion.”

Mike has been bringing the heat all year, dropping verses on tracks alongside Ace Hood, BJ The Chicago Kid, Big K.R.I.T. and more. This release has been his first solo drop in over a decade, with most of his releases being a part of iconic hip-hop duo Run The Jewels in RTJ4 (2020).
