Calvin Harris drops highly anticipated sequel Funk Wav Bounces, Vol 2

After a long few months of singles, Calvin Harris has finally released his highly-anticipated sequel Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2.

Harris’ sixth full-length LP is his first since the original 2017 release Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1. It’s preceded by the singles “Potion” featuring Young Thug and Dua Lipa, “New Money” featuring 21 Savage, “Stay with Me” with Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Halsey, and “New to You” featuring Offset, Normani, and Tinashe.

Timberlake gets his own verse on the new addition to “Stay With Me,” as the nearly 90-second extension is primarily a solo JT song with Halsey’s adlibs scattered throughout. However, he’s more than capable of carrying the short interlude and keeps the light and carefree atmosphere up for the brief runtime.

Vol. 2 continues the trend set forth by the original album and includes 14 new star-studded tracks ready for the hot summer days and relaxing nights ahead. Harris’ production remains as smooth as it has ever been and it syncs perfectly back in with Vol. 1’s clear tropical aesthetic.

He enlists a trifecta of talent with Chloe, Coi Leroy, and Stefflon Don on “Women of the Year.” 6LACK pairs up Donae’o for the grooving “Nothing More to Say” while Snoop Dogg and Latto slow it down on the sensual “Live My Best Life.” Swae Lee shares his angelic vocals to the solo track “Lean on Me” and Pusha T delivers the final hard-hitting verse of the album on “Day One” with Pharrell for his second feature of the project.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2 is another shining addition to Harris’s stellar discography and, like the original, is sure to be played at outdoor summer events for years to come. With the wide variety of A-list stars attached, it’s possible for everyone to have a different favorite after they give it a listen. Harris will keep those summer vibes going right as the season slowly begins to wind down.

Calvin Harris drops new single ‘New To You’ with Offset, Normani, Tinashe

With less than a week before his highly-anticipated album drops, Calvin Harris has shared the star-studded tracklist to Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 2.

Like the initial installment, Vol 2 will feature some creative partnerships that bring together pop’s top hit makers with some of rap’s heavy hitters. Jorja Smith pairs with Lil Durk on ” Somebody Else” while the sole returning star from Vol 1 Snoop Dogg will be joined by Latto on “Live My Best Life.”

Swae Lee and Busta Rhymes get their own respective solo songs on “Lean on Me “and “Ready or Not.” Harris even reunited the classic team of Pusha T and his longtime friend and collaborator Pharrell on the final track “Day One.” With many more found on such an extensive guest list, the project aims to have something that everyone can enjoy.

The tracklist announcement came soon after Harris announced yet another single. The DJ shared a small teaser for “New To You” featuring Normani, Offset, and Tinashe on Monday (July 25th) night. The trailer posted to his social media accounts focuses on a host of tropical plants while violins softly play in the background. The full song blooms from this lush opener into a smooth, cinematic track. Tinashe’s vocals sound heavenly over the string-filled production and Offset’s verse calls back to his stellar feature on Harris’s timeless hit “Slide.” The track is a change-up from the shredding guitar found on “New Money” or the bouncing beat in “Potions,” but still fits the overall aesthetic Harris cultivates.

Previously released singles “Potions” featuring Dua Lipa and Young Thug, “New Money” featuring 21 Savage, and the latest single “Stay With Me” featuring Justin Timberlake, Halsey, and Pharrell will all be included in the project. The latter will also have a sequel on the new album with the chart-topping trio all returning.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2 is right around the corner just in time for summer. Fans have been waiting for nearly five years since the original iconic tape and the wait will finally be over once Vol 2 drops on Aug. 5.

Calvin Harris reveals ‘Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 2’ release for August

With the temperature rising and summer in full swing, Calvin Harris is ready to redefine an era that had Summer 2017 in a chokehold.

Surprising fans on Wednesday (June 29) with the pre-save link for his upcoming effort Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 2, Harris is set to return on Aug. 5 with another all-star cast behind him.

Featuring 21 Savage, Pusha T, Offset, 6LACK, Normani, Chloe, Snoop Dogg, Swae Lee, Jorja Smith and many more, the eclectic producer-DJ’s latest teaser video lists all of his album’s guests as the high tide crashes on the shores of a sun-kissed beach. Amid the teaser clip, Harris shared the album’s second lead track with 21 Savage “New Money” on July 1.

Ushering in the lead single off the long-awaited sequel to Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 — which is hailed as a modern classic by fans of all tastes — Harris enlisted pop star Dua Lipa and sonic chameleon Young Thug to kick off Vol. 2’s rollout with “Potion” (May 27).

The former had previously worked with him on their loose single “One Kiss” while the latter appeared on the original Funk Wav Bounces track “Heatstroke.” This marks Thug’s first appearance since his RICO indictment and will be his first collaboration with Lipa.

Harris initially shared a short snippet of the song on social media Monday (May 23), as the clip saw a drone camera soar over a purple-tinted ocean before slowly focusing on an island in the distance. Upon its release, the official music video opens with a glimpse at that island, as an electric guitar shreds over the footage and, once the camera zooms in, Dua Lipa rides over the disco beat.

Her transportive vocals over the track’s funky, electro-infused production are a match made in heaven — and Thug’s addition is no different. He skates over bouncy synths to deliver a short but groovy verse to the summer-ready, tropical hit. The visual shows off the pair enjoying their island escape and enjoying the laid-back vibe that Harris’s production encapsulates.

Harris recently spoke with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about his upcoming album as well as how he enlisted Young Thug’s help for this new track. Regarding Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 2, he wanted it to sound more improvisational and have an imperfect mixing style compared to how cleanly produced the original album was.

“I wanted the original essence and I want the layers and the grit and the dirt and I don’t want everything to be mixed perfectly. I want things to be too loud and I want things to be like, you know, I want things to be like Sly and the Family Stone when it’s just mixed on the fly.”

He went on to say he knew he wanted Thug on the song and could not picture anyone else on it. He noted that his flow and the way he bends his voice to any production is unlike anyone else he’s ever seen.

“I mean, there was only one person I wanted on this. And we chased him for a while. It’s the voice… but it’s the delivery as well and how does he think of these things and these flows and the way that he kind of weaves around the beat in a way that I could never, ever even imagine.

Calvin Harris announces ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2’

After weeks of sharing scattered clues on social media, Calvin Harris is ready for another round of ‘Funk Wavs’ this summer. The famed DJ took to Twitter Wednesday (April 20) to announce the sequel to his 2017 hit album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 — which is widely regarded as one of the best summertime albums in recent years.

The announcement came with a photo of a lone billboard reading “Summer 22.” The original project was played throughout the summer of ’17 and delivered classic singles like the Frank Ocean and Migos collaboration “Slide” or the Future and Khalid hit “Rollin.”

The majority of the project was the perfect soundtrack to long, hot summer nights and made fans hungry for more of this particular sound. However, Harris later stated that he didn’t plan to make a sequel to the tape which devastated fans. Luckily for them, he’s clearly changed his mind and has returned to it five years later.

Since Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, the producer has remained relatively lowkey. He has not released a new project under his own name since the original LP and instead has been dropping house tracks under his new title Love Regenerator since 2020. However, in the past year, he produced The Weeknd‘s “I Heard You’re Married” off of Dawn FM and is rumored to have been working with Normani on a new single.

Harris is currently set to perform at several summer festivals down the road. With no specific date in mind or a single for Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 just yet, fans will still have to wait until they get a chance of what the new project will sound like. Thankfully, summer is right around the corner.
