Lil Yachty gifts fans with new project ‘Birthday Mix 6’

Lil Boat’s annual tradition of birthday mixes continues to stay afloat, as the QC rapper gifted fans with a melodic, 9-track EP on his 24th birthday.

Yachty has gained underground notoriety over the years through his birthday mixes — showcasing different styles, sounds and experimenting with various release methods. As a holdover in between studio albums, Yachty’s special day always seems to pack a punch. However, his sixth birthday mixtape is the first one to be packaged properly for all DSPs.

Some of these cuts can be heard throughout Yachty’s YouTube series “The Boat Show.” Linking up with Internet Money for a round of studio sessions, tracks in “Virgo World,” “Sprinkle” and “Lord of the Beans” highlights Yachty’s signature autotune sing-rapping while also channeling his Detroit rap flow.

Touting features in SoFaygo, Lil Tecca, Draft Day and Dc2trill, Birthday Mix 6 brings back Summer Songs Yachty with a twist — full of shimmering, airy melodies accompanied by glistening rage synths and hard-hitting percussion.

Releasing the EP’s harmonious, lo-fi pop track “Love Music” on July 3, it seems as though the single falls in line with Yachty’s reveal of a new era — showcasing a revitalized, complete sound from the Atlanta-based rapper. Birthday Mix 6 is not only an eclectic combination of styles, but further proves Yachty’s ability to remain relavent as one of hip-hop’s seasoned hit-makers.
