Kid Cudi and Lil Durk collide for a world-bending Lyrical Lemonade collab.
The highly-anticipated Lyrical Lemonade album feels right around the corner.
Off the back of its lead single “Doomsday” (June 23) with Cordae and Juice WRLD, Cole Bennett and company shared the album’s second track and video, “Guitar In My Room,” featuring Lil Durk and Kid Cudi.
“Bringing worlds together that you wouldn’t expect,” Bennett expressed deep gratitude for the collaboration, saying: “This moment means more to me than I can put into words. Thank you Durk, Cudi, and everyone involved in this project.”
Touting ethereal chords and haunting background vocals, Durk and Cudi combine their distinct sounds for a rather captivating effort. Durk delivers a poignant sung-rap performance, highlighting lines such as “accept me for me / Don’t judge me for my past life.” He delves deep into his past, touching on personal battles with addiction and relationships. Kid Cudi, known for his signature humming and deep tones, adds another dimension to the song — speaking of a love he encountered in a dream amid a journey to the moon.
Prior to “Guitar In My Room,” Cudi had planned to unveil his forthcoming LP, INSANO, on Sept. 15, but was postponed to January 2024 earlier this month. Cudi explained the delay, wanting to ensure he presents “the best version” of himself to fans. Additionally, Mr. Rager is featured on 1017 ALYX 9SM’s new project COMPILATION V1, as Durk’s feature on the remix to Sexyy Red’s “Hellcat SRTs” and latest album Almost Healed have held him down in 2023. Both artists performed at Summer Smash this past June, which may have paved the way for this collaboration.
Expect more of the unexpected once the Lyrical Lemonade album arrives later this year.
