Maxo Kream drops ‘GREENER KNOTS’ ahead of upcoming album ‘The Weight Of The World’

Announcing Weight Of The World‘s release date Tuesday (Oct. 12), Maxo Kream decided to give fans a little taste of what’s to come — dropping another single off his album in “GREENER KNOTS.” The devilish, flamenco guitar-sampled beat allows Kream to flow effortlessly over the track’s 2:20 run-time.

With an immersively smooth instrumental courtesy of BET Producer of the Year Hit-Boy, Kream’s voice is equally as sultry — spitting fast-paced rhymes about how “he’s seen a lot” and “dreamed a lot,” discussing his upbringing, his ever-evolving grind and succeeding despite the setbacks he’s faced over the course of his career.

First time I seen The Lox

Started gettin’ high, homicides, drive-by, ex demons

Lemon squeeze, red beams and Glocks

Seen a nigga die, shot him right in the eye

Put a nigga in the sky, made his breathing stop

Spin the block for the chop, ain’t even stop

Can’t ring your shots

That’s the very first day that I ever seen me an opp

Maxo Kream’s ‘Weight Of The World’ to release Oct. 18

After a hilarious text exchange between Tyler, The Creator and Maxo Kream last month, it appeared that both artists had a little more in store than just a few comedic jabs.

Releasing his upcoming album’s lead single “BIG PERSONA” on Sept. 7, the Houston-based rapper and The Creator’s chemistry is undeniably enjoyable leading into Weight Of The World’s rollout.

While Kream announced Tuesday that his long-awaited project is set to release Oct. 18, its lead single carries more weight than advertised — as “PERSONA” is the name of Maxo’s streetwear brand, acting as a homage to his late-brother who passed away last year.

The track — produced by Tyler himself — and the accompanying visual sees Wolf Haley in front of gleaming Rolls-Royce, rapping about spending bags on a “summer house” and flexing his Grammy win for his 2019 modern classic IGOR.

Kream finds his pocket to flex as well — also rapping about moving his “mom out the hood” and hanging out by the lake throughout the track’s 2:12 minute run-time.

We ain’t good, bitch, we doin’ great

Big ass mansion, new estate

Friendly neighbors, pearly gates

Sippin’ Arnold Palmers with my momma chillin’ by the lake.

In an interview with Complex in August, Kream touched on his brother’s death and the album, saying: “It didn’t affect my creativity. You got to take everything day-to-day. Just making sure it’s the right project, but then don’t take too long. You don’t know when something like COVID is going to break out or what. Over time, I grew more as a person. Each album, I grow.”

While Kream’s overarching impact and “in-your-face” style has lifted the Texas native to new heights, his 2019 project Brandon Banks is a glimpse into the star power he possesses. Co-signed by Travis Scott, Schoolboy Q and A$AP Ferg, Kream’s collaboration with Tyler seems to make perfect sense to start his Weight Of The World era.

Meanwhile, Tyler is fresh off his most successful commercial release with his Gangsta Grillz-inspired blockbuster album, Call Me If You Get Lost. His creativity and attention to detail within his rejuvenated love for rapping has been awe-inspiring to witness this year. With deep-bedded punchlines and bars that stretch the minds of listeners, we’re living in an era where Tyler, The Creator has the world in the palm of his hand — and rightfully so.
