NLE Choppa spits ‘Yak Flow’ on new single

Less than three months since the release of his most recent full-length project Me vs. Me, NLE Choppa has opted for a short vacation. On Friday (April 1), the 19 year old Memphis native dropped his new single “Yak Flow,” demonstrating his lyrical prowess once more.

“Yak Flow” only contains one lengthy verse, as Choppa fires off some of his most impressive and introspective bars to date. The mellow trap production works to set the stage for NLE’s demonstrative approach, as he explains he wrote the song before it was given a beat.

I’m writing this song with no beat, I’m doing poetry (Poetry)

My letter to the streets, I feel that they owe a G (They owe a G)

Aye, all them hits I gave, but it wasn’t enough, I see

I put it in they face until they get enough of me

Throughout the track, he reiterates how large the chip on his shoulder is, calling himself underrated, the “most hated and neglected.”

Along with this, NLE also reflects on his family life, hoping to expand his household with more children after his girlfriend recently had a miscarriage at the beginning of March.

Got to be a role model, I got two children (Yeah, I got two children)

Got a son on the way, God too willing (Too willing)

Clover going onto two, and she too pretty (She three pretty)

I want to have a few kids, don’t care how many (Don’t care how many)

The music video for “Yak Flow,” which Choppa directed himself, sees him turning up with a group of women in his living room, but acknowledging that he’s “only got time for a quickie in the life I’m living.”

NLE is set to go on tour in May, as 2022 already looks to be a monumental one for him.

“Yak Flow” is an impressive exhibition of how polished and focused Choppa’s raps have become, and a strong sign for any music he continues to drop in the future.
