Taz Money cashes in with blazing single ‘Oochie Wally’

An embodiment of authenticity in a sometimes all-too-glossy industry, Tampa’s Taz Money is a shapeshifter, able to skate over fast-paced Floridian jams, employ Detroit-esque flows and New York drill bops with ease.

Even before setting the stage for his Cash Cobain-assisted single “Oochie Wally” (Sept. 15), Taz had already dropped heat in tracks like “Highspeed,” “Finished,” and “No Rest” — with all four singles being packaged into a waterfall EP (I love when artists do this).

Although it lasts just over a minute, “Oochie Wally” is packed with energy and vibrance, as the duo take a classic Nas beat (listen to “Oochie Wally” with Bravehearts) and spin it on its head. Delivering punchlines that ricochet between Taz’s unmistakable swagger and King Slizzy’s raw dynamism, the sample’s drill interpolation is as infectious as it is impressive, with both artists trading verses that send listeners into a stank-faced daze.

Taz Money’s approach is real, devoid of the industry smoke and mirrors. With an ‘On The Radar’ freestyle appearance queued up, if you’ve been on the lookout for new voices, the Tampa-based emcee is a frontrunner to add to your playlist. Just watch Taz Money continue to cash out.
