Mayhem at Mercury Lounge: While Yhapojj’s New York City show was shut down on Monday (Dec. 18), the underground star still made sure his fans turnt up.
The venue, which holds a max capacity of 250, saw over 2,000 people wait in the cold for the Alabama-based rapper’s sold-out show. Fans — out of pure excitement — started to get restless after hours of waiting, climbing fire escapes, banging on windows and stealing the metal detector at the door. Police and fire were dispatched, thus canceling the show.
This, however, didn’t deter Yhapo. A makeshift concert at LES Skatepark trickled in about 250 fans from the mania that took place at Mercury Lounge. Alongside Yhapo, rising phenoms in Xaviersobased, Nettspend, CLIP and phreshboyswag made the most out of the skatepark set.
“This was actually my third show show ever,” Yhapojj told OGM. “The mayhem felt very welcoming to be honest, like coming home from the Army and getting a big ass hug. The fans are super loyal. Always loyal and I love that. I heard the show was getting crazy when people kept coming up and down the stairs saying ‘Yhap you gotta see this’ shit was crazy. Especially cause I’ve never been to a concert before.”
Yhapojj’s latest mixtape Evolution Of Xur saw the young rapper separate himself from the pack of new school talents. Leading a revitalized charge with tracks like his breakout hit “Hurt My Feelings” and alt-bangers like “1o,” Yhapo is well in the same realm as other up-and-coming acts like Hardrock and OsamaSon.
“I love that punk shit, it’s way different being in person than all the stuff on the Internet so I like it better like that. The skate park shit was fire, we moved there and turned that shit up even more -– me, Xav, Nett, Phreshboy, CLIP –– all that shit. I’m a bit more excited for shows next year, I ain’t tryin to start anymore riots though.”
