Florida emcee Denzel Curry is readily preparing for battle on his next full-length project Melt My Eyez — and with it, he adds a refreshing layer to its cinematic universe.
His latest single “Zatoichi” enlists the help of UK wordsmith slowthai for a high-energy track that holds references to the fictional blind swordsman from legendary Japanese film series, Zatoichi.
Along with Zel’s one-of-a-kind charisma, slowthai brings an unmatched amount of vigor for a quick hook over a danceable house instrumental, as Denzel spits about his pain and motivation in the rap game. Beautiful, Japanese-influenced visuals depict Zel training under a Zatoichi-inspired martial artist in an exotic rainforest setting.
“I’m Zatoichi leadin’ the blind, pressure get applied
They cut my niggas down in their prime, callin’ father time
To turn back all the clocks but he still stuck on another line
I tried to crack a smile and still a frown follows right behind”
Denzel Curry — “Zatoichi”
As Denzel preps for the release of his fifth studio album, Melt My Eyez, he’s certainly brought the heat to usher in his new era. Following the initial announcement of the project, he dropped “Walkin” — a two-in-one track that bluntly addresses the injustices of our world today.
Over the course of 2021, the “Ultimate” rapper has appeared on tracks with Zillakami, Powers Pleasant, JPEGMAFIA, Pouya, Kenny Mason and more. With some of last year’s collaborators already reappearing on tracks with Denzel, more are sure to assist when Melt My Eyez hits DSPs.
With his album on the horizon, fans are sure to see more of Denzel Curry in the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted.
