Album season is in full swing for Dreamville’s golden child JID — dropping off another banger in anticipation of his follow-up to 2018’s DiCaprio 2.
His forthcoming album, The Forever Story, has been in the works for quite some time, as JID’s latest track “29 (Freestyle)” continues to showcase not only his star power, but unequivocal presence as one of our generation’s marquee lyricists.
Officially released to DSPS on July 5, Using off-kilter flows on an unconventional instrumental with quick, twanging banjos and booming 808s, the visual perfectly matches the energy the “Surround Sound” emcee brings on the record — kicking it in the countryside and fishing in a large river.
“I’m qualified to never make the dollar off of Spotify
Shit, nah, I’m lyin’, probably five
She say my willy really shine, Jiddy call it stine
Kamikaze cool, killin’ mood
You will not survive, who will I include?”
JID — “Freestyle 29”
Despite the long hiatus between albums, JID has been anything but inactive, dropping collaborations with 21 Savage, Baby Tate, John Legend, Mike Dimes and more this year. At this time, it’s unclear whether or not “29 (Freestyle)” will appear on his highly-anticipated album. However, according to the YouTube description of the video, the project is slated to release in the near future, writing: “The Forever Story dropping very soon…”
As The Forever Story takes shape behind the scenes, JID’s flawless YouTube exclusives further bolsters the hype of his third full-length LP.
