The first weekend of Coachella (April 15-17) not only brought forth a slew of sizzling performances in the heat of the California desert, but a mid-set surprise from JID.
Setting the stage ablaze with a succession of his greatest hits on Saturday (April 16), the Dreamville emcee teased the release date of his long-awaited third studio album, The Forever Story.
“I’ma let you know the date next week,” JID proclaimed to a clamoring Coachella crowd, as the “Surround Sound” hitmaker performed tracks in “Down Bad” with Dreamville labelmates Earthgang, “Never” and the boisterous “Stick” with Kenny Mason, Sheck Wes and J. Cole off Dreamville’s recent D-DAY mixtape.

Previously alluding to his upcoming record in a Billboard interview earlier this month, JID divulged his career was at a “boiling point” — revealing that his forthcoming LP is “the best shit I’ve ever done in my life.”
“I have patience with this road I’m on, and I’m just building on what I did. We’re at a boiling point where everything will spill over. This next album [The Forever Story] is the best shit I’ve ever done in my life. Every step I’ve taken was worth it, and our blocks are building.”
JID to Billboard
It’s been four years since JID’s last full-length record DiCaprio 2, as the album saw hits in “151 Rum” and “Off Deez” with J. Cole earn Billboard Top 100 placements. Along with his debut album, The Never Story, still in heavy rotation to this day, JID’s full-length return is finally within view.
