Back in mid-February, San Antonio native Mike Dimes stratospherically rose to stardom off the back of his fiery hit single “Home.”
The track saw the “young boy from Texas” go ballistic over a potent, violin-infused beat, as “Home” was the fourth promotional single for his March album IN DIMES WE TRUST — which has amassed over 24 million streams on Spotify. In mid-April, Mike first teased a remix of the song with JID, and now almost two months later, it finally has come to fruition.
At midnight on Tuesday (June 7), Mike Dimes released the “Home” remix with the elusive, slick-tongued Dreamville lyricist. For the new-and-improved rendition of Mike’s biggest track to date, he employs the same “birds of the same feather” hook and verse as it was in its original version. However, instead of rapping his “switching a Lambo’ for a Chevy” line, he replaces this portion with fresh-pressed bars from JID.
The Atlanta native spits a long-winded exhibition about his hometown, comparing himself to JAY-Z with a “Rap game take over, I’m JID Hova” bar, his girls’ cosmetic surgery upgrades and his expansive luxury car garage.
Check a n***a chain, go and get this shit over
Chevy or the Benz, he’ll probably’ll get the Rover
But, then again, all three would he get for a show
But he never sober, probably gon’ need a chauffeur
‘Cause he ain’t underground no more, n****s was gophers
“Home (Remix)” — Mike Dimes & JID
There has yet to be an instance where a feature from JID has not vastly improved a song’s quality, even if the track is as ferocious of a banger as “Home.” As Mike Dimes’ laundry list of co-signs continues to grow longer, JID seems to think very highly of him — gifting the Texas rapper a prized, high caliber verse.
This is just the first offering from Dimes this week, as his new track “TALK2ME” is also set to release this Friday (June 10).
