It’s been a long three years since fans last heard a new song from TDE’s ScHoolboy Q.
Since his 2019 album CrasH Talk, the TDE superstar has had only a handful guest verses in that time — focusing more on his family life as well as his newfound love for golf. Now, the West Coast rapper is plotting his return with the release of his new single “Soccer Dad.”
Q initially teased the track on Instagram last week, sharing a quick snippet of the new single with a colorful animation of a cartoon character smoking. On the full song, Q raps about the new wave of rappers and how without him and his crew, they wouldn’t have the foundation laid out for them. He mentions, during his hiatus, how much he’s grown and turned over a new leaf, but on the hook, he knows that people have been constantly on his back and talking down on him. It’s a targetted assault that leaves listeners wondering what the alleged full album may sound like if this is a potential lead single.
“Groovy ass, no face killer that love to smile
They wonder how I mind my business and still around
I got half a ticket parked out crooked, they wonder how
Cause the Ms on me match my age, my n***a, wow I am he, no face killer, and you’s a clown
ScHoolboy Q – “Soccer Dad”
“Soccer Dad” marks ScHoolboy’s first new verse since his feature on Freddie Gibbs‘ “Gang Signs.” With this new single, a new full-fledged Q album may also be on the way in near future. With images of Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock back in the studio together, SZA finally completing her long-awaited album, and a host of new signees, it seems evident that TDE is prepping for a show-stopping 2022.
