Chicago has always been, and will be a major hotspot for musicians of all genres — especially in hip-hop. Some of rap’s biggest stars today hail from the Windy City as that number continues to soar year after year.
Bred from the same sonic atmosphere of Kanye West, Common, Chance The Rapper, Polo G, Juice WRLD and more, new wave Chicago artist CP continues to separate himself from his peers with a clear-cut style and distinct soundscape.
CP has been steadily making music for the last four years (2018), working with artists like TheHxliday, DCG brothers, 10k.cash and many more. You’ll often find the young star kicking it at Chicago-based media powerhouse Lyrical Lemonade — also performing at previous Summer Smash festivals and is preparing for his upcoming set at 2022 Summer Smash later this year.
While it’s been over two years since CP delivered his last full-length project, the Chicago artist has delivered a handful singles since — kicking things into high gear by dropping his sophomore album, YOTD (April 15).
YOTD sits at a sweet and simple eight tracks and contains features from fellow Chicago artists Warhol.ss and frequent collaborators DCG Shun and DCG BSav. The project is compact but packs a punch, lasting 17 minutes long and holds an distinguished essence that continues to put CP in the spotlight he deserves.
His forceful vocals sound as if they contain built in bass and reverb, as CP aggressively displays his ear-catching flow with ease over the course of the LP. While each song off the project differs in its own artistic way, it’s safe to say that YOTD is best listened to in a car or party setting — anywhere that can generate heavy bass, so you’re able to feel the album’s full effect.

Ultimately, YOTD is a major step up for CP as he was able to recruit some stellar Chicago acts and share his artistic vision with the world. The project gives fans a great taste of CP’s unique style and one-of-a-kind vocals that you truly can’t find anywhere else.
