Doja Cat is ready to rap on her next project

Grammy-nominated rapper-singer Doja Cat has been the topic of hot debate regarding her genre of choice — fluidly switching back and forth from lyrical spitting to smooth crooning on any given track.

As the culture begged on the question as to whether her style can be described as hip-hop or R&B, Doja is never one to be boxed in — proclaiming she is a rapper at heart.

In light of this, Doja joined Elle to discuss her thoughts on her career up to this point and where she wishes to take it next. Coming just a few days after her unfortunate cancellation of her summer tour dates due to tonsil surgery, the “Kiss Me More” singer reveals how the last few years of success have brought her to this pivotal stage in her career.

Despite her medical issues, Doja has not yet revealed any plans for her 2022 follow-up to Planet Her other than its predominantly hip-hop sound, telling Elle, “I have been getting songs and things sent to me…. Oh fuck, I wish I could tell people! There’s some really cool stuff that I got sent from friends. They’re all working on beats, and I’m giving them notes and they know what I want, so I’m excited.”

In December of 2021, the young star expressed interest in working on a double album with production from revered hip-hop producers 9th Wonder and Jay Versace, bolstering her claim of wanting to focus on rapping.

Regardless of the direction she decides to take, fans seem to be ecstatic at the prospect of a new sound from Doja Cat, who is coming off the hype of a explosive Coachella set and a well-deserved Grammy win. We will just have to wait and see what she has in store for us as she recovers.
